“Back 2 School Giveaway” set for Saturday

It’s almost time to go back to school, and a local giveaway is expected to draw 5,000 people Saturday, Aug. 16 to the Gate City Christian Church, 202 W. Siphon Road in Chubbuck. Organizers plan on giving school supplies to about 1,500 children.

Joshua Robinson, director of the giveaway, said they have made a combination from all school supply lists that will get those in need about 80 percent of their school supplies.

“School supplies is just a part of it,” Robinson said. “You can come and you can receive free clothing. You go through our building, we hand you a sack, and you go shopping. And that’s not just for the kids, that’s for the parents as well.”

Robinson said they will have food and fun to make it a fair-like atmosphere. He said that’s to avoid any type of stigma – he said they simply want to help and give parents and kids a fun day while they’re at it. He also said there will be booths of local businesses offering $1,000 in free services as well.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. Parents who arrive with their kids get first pick. Parents who do not are asked to come to the event at 12:30 p.m. Robinson recommends getting there early, possibly sending one parent to save a place in the line, then bringing the whole family.

He said there will be volunteers handing out food and drink to those waiting in line as well. If you have further questions, the group will be setting up until at least 8 p.m. Friday. You can also email Robinson at joshua@b2sgiveaway.com.
