Blackfoot men die in sewer accident

Two Blackfoot men died in an industrial accident in Georgetown.

The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the two victims, ages 46 and 18, were working on the Georgetown city sewer project and trying to repair a leak below a manhole Thursday.

One of them was overcome by toxic fumes generated through the repair efforts. He collapsed into chest-deep water. The other man went into the manhole to rescue him, but he also collapsed.

Bear Lake County emergency crews got the men out. The victims were pronounced dead at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t released the victims’ names pending notification of family.
