Speeding tickets increase along with limit

More locals seem to have a need for speed since the speed limit changed on local interstates. The Idaho State Police said districts in Pocatello and Idaho Falls have given more speeding tickets since last year on Interstate 15.

From July 24 to Aug. 20 , both districts saw an increase of more than 60 speeding tickets from the same time last year. Troopers said drivers seem to think the new 80 mile per-hour speed limit means they can drive 90.

“We’re starting to see the speed creep up. We are starting to see the 85, 87, 90 out here and that is just flat-out fast. We have a zero tolerance on speeding violations; 80 truly means 80,” said ISP Lt. Chris Weadick.

Speed limits on interstates 84, 86 and 15 increased from 75 to 80 miles per hour in late July.
