Idaho Falls fire chief named

A California firefighter has been named new chief of the Idaho Falls Fire Department.

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper announced Dave Hanneman of Chula Vista, California, will take over the post Oct. 20.

Hanneman started his career in 1984 with the Cole-Collister Fire District in Boise. He spent 21 years with the Boise Fire Department, achieving the rank of deputy chief. He became chief of the Chula Vista Fire Department in 2008, where he implemented a new paramedic program and developed a fire facility master plan.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the Idaho Falls Fire Department, and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work, both with the staff and the community,” said Hanneman.
