Rexburg approves flood mitigation plan

This week Rexburg City Council approved its new flood mitigation plan.

The plan includes raising the Rodney Street lift station at least two feet.

The city said it has already begun cleaning out the drainage ditch that runs behind the Ricks-Palmer subdivision and has recently acquired the ditch in the Hidden Valley subdivision.

“In the past we’ve gone in and we’ve done some maintenance on that ditch, but now that we have deed to the land we can go in and take a look at it and do some survey work and see what’s gonna be the best option to keep maintenance and do maintenance on that ditch,” said the city’s engineer, Keith Davidson.

Short-term flood improvements are estimated to cost a little more than $200,000.

The single costliest improvement will be increasing pumping capacity at the detention basin at 4th West and 6th South. This is estimated to cost $110,000.
