Bingham County tax levy down

Bingham County commissioners approved the county budget for fiscal year 2015. The budget is lower than 2014 and the levy is also lower.

Commissioner Mark Bair said the total budget is more than $28 million. The budget includes a 2 percent salary increase for county employees and $200,000 for a new public defender payment system.

“The $56,000 is a decrease in the county budget of almost two percent and the tax bill for the county portion is going to be down a little bit from what it has been in the past,” said Bair.

Bair also said the sales tax revenue from the state was up about 3 percent.
