Low-income clinic expands with federal grant

A local health clinic that offers medical and dental procedures at reduced rates was recently awarded a $200,000 federal grant.

Grand Peaks Medical and Dental in St. Anthony said the money will enable them to extend hours, purchase new equipment and offer new services.

“Our mission is access to healthcare for all regardless of ability to pay,” said Brian Hadlock. “Right now our patient population is 60 percent uninsured.”

The money comes from more than $295 million dished out health centers as part of the Affordable Care Act.

Dr. Ron Ellsworth, who works at Grand Peaks, said by offering these services, they save taxpayers money.

“The other avenue is an emergency room … and the cost of that is four to five times more at the very least,” said Ellsworth.

For the first time ever, Grand Peaks plans to be open on Saturdays.

It will also add two days of dental hygiene.
