Prepare your car for winter
Winter is approaching quickly and Bob Boucher, owner of Meineke Car Care in Idaho Falls says you don’t want to forget to make sure your car is prepared.
“I think a lot of people here in southeastern Idaho understand, you know, they are offroaders, hunters, fisherman and they maintain their offroad vehicles, four wheelers and dirt bikes in a manner that they can get back from the wilderness … Well it’s just as important getting from your house to your job,” said Boucher.
Here are five things you need to do on your vehicle to stay safe:
1. Have good all weather tires that are rated for the snow
2. Get your brakes checked
3. Make sure you have a strong car battery
4. Double check all of your exterior lights
5. Maintain your cooling system at a proper setting for your antifreeze.
“If you drive a diesel vehicle it’s very important that you consider putting a block heater in if you don’t already have one,” said Boucher.
Block heaters are especially good for those who have to park their vehicle outside.
Other items to keep handy in your car are a warm blanket, a road flare kit and kitty litter.
“There’s just so many ways to get in trouble on our highways here in the winter that it’s very important that you’re prepared for it,” said Boucher.
Boucher says your local automotive shop should be able to help you make sure your car is safe and prepared for the winter months.
