Dept. of Labor encourages veteran entrepreneurs
On Thursday morning the Idaho Dept. of Labor along with local business development groups hosted an entrepreneur seminar specifically aimed toward veterans who are interested in starting up their own businesses.
Regional economist Dan Cravens said one of the most entrepreneurial groups in the state happen to be among the veteran population, and added they also have a higher success rate when it comes to sustaining their businesses.
“We are focused on ways we can generate more high-paying jobs, so if we could encourage people to be entrepreneurial, particularly veterans who have had a good track record of overall successfully starting new businesses, we could stimulate the economy,” Cravens said.
Cravens said there are markets for opening new, low-cost sit-down and fast food restaurants in college towns.
He also said as we are seeing increased job creation in these manufacturing areas, there are more opportunities surfacing for service-related and retail industries along with software app company creations.
He also advises veterans to apply the skills they acquired in the military, such as mechanical training, toward designating what sort of industry your business will cater toward.
