Rigby High School senior wins Distinguished Student Award

As student body president, Olivia Olaveson is leading the Thanksgiving food drive at Rigby High School.

“We’re donating it to our food banks and to our community to help people with their Thanksgiving meals,” Olaveson said.

Student council members go from class to class trying to reach their goal of 15,000 cans. It’s just one of many activities Olaveson and the rest of the student council organize.

“We did our homecoming week the third week of school and we planned the parade and the tailgate party and the activities we do with our school, and we get to plan so many things for the school and the community just to build school spirit,” Olaveson said.

The teacher who nominated Olaveson says she’s one of the best students to come through the school. With her positive attitude and desire to serve she’s admired by all.

“I love to serve and I love to make people feel important and feel needed,” Olaveson said.

To reduce the stress from all the activities Olaveson plays the piano. She’s been taking lessons from her grandma since she was 5. She’s says if students find what they love and pursue it they’ll be happy in high school.

“I found that I love student council and I found that I love FFA, but no matter what it is, whether it’s sports or acting or anything at all, just be involved in your high school and make sure you make the most of it because it goes by fast and you don’t want to regret it at all,” Olaveson said.
