South Fremont performer wins award

One of Carlie Webster’s recent accomplishments was playing the lead in the Fremont High School production of “Hairspray.”

“When the curtains open when I’m in a play and the spotlights hit the stage, it gives me a rush and it makes me feel really good inside, and it’s kind of like athletes getting rushes from playing sports — that’s my rush.” Webster said.

Webster has been in three high school musicals and loved every one of them.

But Webster’s musical talent goes beyond singing — she also plays several instruments. She lettered in band for three years. Webster is also involved in National Honor Society, softball, cross-country and student government.

“My parents tell me I’m kind of a yes man and I can’t say no to people, but at the same time I just like being involved,” Webster said.

Webster won the South Fremont Distinguished Young Women competition where she also took the talent, scholastic and fitness awards. She says it’s good be involved in lots of activities.

“I notice when I’m involved in other activities besides just school work I have more of a balance in my life, and I’m actually able to do better in my schoolwork,” Webster said.
