Local dairy now offering raw milk

Raw foods are becoming more popular, and one Eastern Idaho dairy farm is using the trend as a new business opportunity.

Daloris Jersey Dairy Farm in Rigby now sells raw milk. The farm has been selling unpasteurized milk for almost a year now, and owners say business has been very good.

“Well last week we just finished our best week, and we averaged, we sold over 100 bottles a day,” said owner Dale Mortimer.

Mortimer has been milking cows for about 30 years, and just recently got into selling milk in the raw.

“We’ve always had people coming and asking ‘Do you sell raw milk?’ Well it’s kind of illegal unless you meet all the state requirements, and so we had enough demand so we figured we have enough demand, so maybe we should try,” said Mortimer.

Daloris Dairy is a grade A dairy, so they have to meet all of the requirements of a grade A facility.

“Cleanliness, sanitation, bacteria, all the cows are tested, so it’s a good quality product,” Mortimer said.

“I like to use it, and I am so excited to try the Daloris kind because if it tastes better and is a better quality, I am all for it,” said customer Susie Wood.

“It’s pretty close to what just came out of the cow,” said Mortimer. “Jersey milk has a really good flavor, it’s sweet and we have just had a great response. Some people try it, and they just love it.”
