CHC foundation wants to help more non profits in the area
The CHC foundation was created in the 80s when the old Sacred Heart hospital shut its doors.
The money that came from selling the hospital license is what the foundation makes grants with.
Some of the projects that are funded are things many would take for granted, but to the agencies requesting the grants it makes a huge difference.
“It would be impossible for the Museum of Idaho to bring the exhibits and educational programming to the people of eastern Idaho and beyond without the contributions of the CHC foundation,” said Museum of Idaho Executive Director David Pennock, “It’s just that simple, without them the Museum of Idaho is not here.”
Pennock said the money CHC has donated went to critical infrastructure like a freight elevator, flooring, and much more.
The museum is not the only place the foundation has helped.
In Idaho Falls the Tautphus Park Zoo, soup kitchen and Haven Shelter are just a few that have been able to finish projects because of the foundation.
“A lot of times people don’t know that we’re around or maybe haven’t heard of us in a big way because sometimes I think we’re that quiet, silent partner, (who) polish off or finish up their project and we don’t always have a big flashy sign that says CHC was here,” said CHC board member Peggy Sharp.
They have awarded grants to schools, senior citizen homes, recreational parks and more.
Even though the CHC office is located in Idaho Falls agencies in smaller communities are encouraged to apply.
“As long as you’re a 501(c)(3) and we’d like to make a difference in our community and surrounding communities here in eastern Idaho,” said CHC board member Ralph Isom.

To write a grant you will need a description of your organization, project goals and objectives, a itemized project budget, and a timeline of how long the project will take to complete.
If the board is interested in awarding a grant they will contact you to set up an on-site interview.
Just this fall the the foundation donated almost $350,000 in grants to non-profits in eastern Idaho.
