Slippery roads lead to crashes

Slippery driving conditions led to various accidents in eastern Idaho on Friday.

One incident in the morning on Interstate 15 southbound near Shelley involved two trucks.

The first truck, which was hauling some farm equipment, lost control. It slid off the road and turned around in the median. The trailer and the equipment it was hauling flipped over.

The second truck swerved to miss the trailer and slid off the freeway onto the other side.

Traffic was reduced to one lane as both trucks were towed away.

Around 1:30 p.m., between the Inkom Port of Entry and the Portneuf Road exit, another accident occurred on I-15.

Tracy Godfrey, 40, of Logan, Utah, was driving northbound in a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity when he lost control and the vehicle slid across the lanes. Godfrey’s vehicle was then struck by a 2012 GMC pickup driven by Isaac Chatterton, 30, of Pocatello, and a 2008 Dodge pickup driven by Michael Baker, 59, of Ammon, Idaho State Police said.

Godfrey was transported via ground ambulance to Portneuf Regional Medical Center. Troopers said it is unknown if Godfrey was wearing a seat belt, but both Chatterton and Baker were wearing seat belts.

The lanes were blocked for about an hour and a half as crews worked to clear the crash.
