Diesel prices down
Fuel prices have been dropping for the last several months, but the cost of diesel fuel was as high as $3.70 a gallon only two months ago, in mid-November. Now the fuel is finally dropping in price and local trucking companies are seeing big financial benefits.
Brad Rodgers of A-Core Concrete Cutting says fuel costs are some of the company’s biggest expenses. “We’ll probably save hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of the year,” says Rodgers.
An average tractor trailer truck holds anywhere between 200 and 300 gallons of fuel. If diesel fuel drops a mere 10 cents a gallon, truckers save $20 to $30 every time they fuel up.
A-Core Concrete Cutting drives to projects all over the western United States. Rodgers says cheaper travel costs for them means cheaper prices for people needing work done in more remote locations.
The savings in diesel fuel aren’t just benefiting truckers. The average consumer will start to see cheaper prices in grocery stores and cheaper delivery prices as shipping costs drop. It also means cheaper road repair, as oil and fuel are key components in asphalt production.
