Authorities try to get killing suspect back to Idaho

A man accused of killing his girlfriend in Idaho Falls is fighting being sent back to Idaho.

Police say 25-year-old Kevin Mcquilliams of Pocatello fled to California after shooting and killing 34-year-old AnnaRae Ponce.

As of Friday, Mcquilliams was in a Nevada County, California, jail and was facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault after the New Year’s Day death.

Investigators said Ponce was not the intended target when Mcquilliams opened fire.

The extradition process could take more than a month. Bonneville County prosecutors said there are likely other charges in California that Mcquilliams will have to answer for before the process will be completed.
