Water meter fees going up in Ammon

Contractors and business owners in Ammon are going to have to pay more to set up their water. This comes after the Ammon City Council passed a resolution Thursday night.

The council voted to pass a resolution that would increase the amount of money contractors and residential businesses would have to pay for water meters. The price for the meters vary. The council said the price for a residential meter is going to raise from about $375 to about $401. Council member, Russell Slack, said the price for quality meters went up by 10 percent and that is why the prices are going up.

“Most of the commercial residences already have the meters in. We are not going back to them to say you need to pay an extra $30 for a water meter they’ve already paid their money so we have to come up with that with our general fund,” said Slack.

The council passed the resolution unanimously.
