Man pleads guilty in Pocatello bank robbery

A man pleaded guilty Monday in connection to a Pocatello bank robbery.

Ronald Allen Shumaker robbed US Bank on Yellowstone Avenue on June 17.

He pleaded guilty before 6th District Court Judge Robert Naftz and waived his right to appeal. By pleading guilty, Shumaker also waived his right to trial by jury.

Along with his new plea, Shumaker also put in a rule 11 agreement, or a plea bargaining agreement. The agreement would have him serve a fixed eight year sentence and a 12-year indeterminate sentence, which means he would be eligible for a parole hearing after eight years in prison.

Shumaker initially pleaded not guilty in August for his robbery charge.

Right now, Judge Naftz is conducting a pre-sentencing investigation with Shumaker’s case. If he decides not to go with the plea bargain, Shumaker can go forward with or withdraw his plea.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 23.
