Duo sentenced for Island Park attempted murder plot

Jessica Brown and Jermaine Wiley were sentenced Tuesday afternoon for their roles in an attempted murder plot carried out last April in Island Park.

In December, Wiley pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the first degree for shooting Eric Norlen twice. The defense recommended five years fixed, because he “didn’t get the job done.”

Judge Greg Moeller handed down the maximum sentence, which is what Fremont County prosecuting attorney Karl Lewies recommended.

“We’re pleased that the judge saw the same things we did,” said Lewies. “In fact, he did order that Wiley serve 15 years in prison, fixed.”

Wiley left the court room, but not before indicating our reporting was No. 1 with his middle finger pointed toward our camera.

Brown, guilty of aiding and abetting the attempted murder of her stepfather, Norlen, then went before the court. She provided Wiley with the ammunition, transportation from California and a hotel room.

Her defense said she would be a good candidate for a rider program, suggesting probation. After a teary apology, Moeller handed down a sentence not far off from the state with 12.5 years fixed and 2.5 years indeterminate.

“I’m pleased that these two criminals have been brought to justice and sentenced quite severely for a very severe crime,” said Lewies.

Norlen, still suffering from partial vision loss, gave victim impact statements in both sentencings. He callled Wiley a pawn in the plot, but still a killer. Norlen also said his stepdaughter, Brown, needed to take responsibility for wanting him dead.

In addition to their prison sentences, Brown and Wiley will each have to pay a $10,000 fine.
