Groundbreaking date announced for Afton temple

Groundbreaking ceremonies have been scheduled for a new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Star Valley, Wyoming.

The First Presidency of the church announced the ceremony will be held Saturday, April 25, on the Haderlie Farm property east of U.S. Highway 89 south of Afton.

The temple was announced at the church’s October 2011 general conference.

Construction is expected to take about two years. Open house dates will be announced to allow for public tours before the temple is dedicated.

The Star Valley Temple will be the first in Wyoming and serve church members living in the western part of the state. Those people currently travel to Rexburg or Idaho Falls, Idaho.
