Famous tenor to perform at Madison High School

George Dyer has performed at opera houses throughout the world. Lately he’s shifted his talents to performing everything from oldies to musicals at Brantson. Tuesday night he’ll bring his show to Madison High School.

Student Joe Mecham was asked to play guitar with the band that will accompanying Dyer. Mecham is glad to seed this support for the music program. He just finished his senior research paper on the validity of music in public education.

“I think it teaches somebody to build synergy,” Mecham said. “It’s a good experience to be in a group and learn to work with others and blend with others.”
Several music groups at the high school will be backing up Dyer in his benefit concert Tuesday. Choir director David Hinck says the concert will provide much needed support.

“As we’re preparing to go to Seattle on our tour this spring I recognized that students would benefit from having a means to offset some of the costs,” Hinck said.

Hinck says there’s value supporting arts in public education.

“Studies are showing all the time the value of students being a part of music groups, and what it does directly for the academic performance of those students as well,” Hinck said.

Dyer’s manager Wayne Leavitt says anyone who questions the power of music will be convinced if they come to the concert.

“You’ll hear how music heals, inspires, uplifts, it edifies, it does everything and he is a master at making that happen,” Leavitt said.

That benefit concert is Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 at the Madison High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are only 10 dollars to hear this world famous singer and it goes to a good cause. Contact the office at Madison High School for tickets at 208-359-3305.
