Woman sentenced in connection to Aschliman murder

And Idaho Falls woman was sentenced in Bonneville County District Court on Thursday for accessory to murder.

Seventh District Judge Jon Shindurling gave Kayla M. Bennett a two- to five-year suspended sentence and five years probation. Deputy Bonneville County Prosecutor James Murdock had proposed a three -to five-year prison sentence.

Bennett, 22, was charged with accessory to murder in September for the murder of Kristy M. Aschliman. Aschliman, 21, of Idaho Falls, was shot to death on Lincoln Road in Bonneville County in January 2013.

Then-Bonneville County Prosecutor Bruce Pickett said Bennett did not have anything to do with the murder itself, but had knowledge of the crime and concealed it from police.

During Thursday’s sentencing, Ashliman’s mother addressed the court with a victim’s impact statement.

Adan A. Arroyo, 23, of Blackfoot, was sentenced in June for first-degree murder in Aschliman’s death. He is serving 25 years to life.
