Victim: Accused dorm intruder was touching himself, had condom

Almost a month after a man entered her Turner Hall dorm while she was sleeping, an ISU student is speaking out about her experience.

Sultan Bamoallem, an ISU finance major from Saudi Arabia, is accused of entering multiple dorms on the ISU campus and touching the occupants over a roughly two-week period.

Freshman Marissa Parks said Bamoallem came into her dorm around 2 p.m. on Feb 23 while she and her roommate were taking a nap.

“I usually leave the window open and the door open because it gets really hot,” said Parks.

Parks said she woke up to Bamoallem lightly stroking up and down her back.

“I kind of sat and I looked at him and I said, ‘Oh, what are you doing in here?'” Parks said.

Parks said Bamoallem claimed to be her roommate’s boyfriend and said that he had gone to the wrong bed by mistake.

It was then she noticed he wasn’t wearing any pants. She also noticed something else — on her roommate’s bed.

“There was actually a condom wrapper sitting on her pillow,” said Parks.

That’s when Parks said she began to piece things together.

“I realized that he was — whenever I woke up he was … facing my bed and touching somewhere towards his genital area,” Parks said. “It kind of freaked me out to think what could have happened if I didn’t wake up.”

But Parks said what stood out most was how the man remained calm — even confident — the entire time he was in her dorm.

“He didn’t think he was doing anything wrong the way he was talking to me,” said Parks. “He was kind of like, ‘Hey, I’m in your room and I’ve got this condom ready.'”

Parks said Bamoallem ended up fleeing. In the weeks that followed, he’s accused of entering dorms at both Nichols Hall and Rendezvous Center as well as following a woman into the restroom.

He faces multiple charges, including trespassing, battery and stalking.

Bamoallem’s attorney, Stratton Laggis, would not confirm if his client was present at a pretrial hearing Thursday morning.

Bamoallem is due back in court April 23.
