Hail covers roads in eastern Idaho

A thunderstorm Wednesday evening hit a Jefferson County community with inches of hail.

KIFI-TV Meteorologist Michael Coats says a slow moving thunderstorm hit its peak right over Roberts around 6 p.m. unloading hail and rain over the area.

Reports from viewers and weather spotters in the area say anywhere from three to six inches of hail covered the town and surrounding county area.

Cheril Berlinfrom Bj’s Bayou said the hail came in two different bursts from the thunderstorm just a few minutes apart.

At least one snow plow was clearing Interstate 15 near Roberts as of 6:45 p.m.

The Roberts mayor called our newsroom requesting that people stay off the roads until the hail has melted.
