Environmental fair encourages ‘greener’ living

The 12th annual Portneuf Valley Environmental Fair brought big crowds to Pocatello’s Caldwell Park Saturday. The aim for the fair is to show the community how to live greener lifestyles.

“There’s just so much information and resources other organizations, businesses and government have to offer that gives people to take a chance to take advantage of it,” said Hannah Sanger, fair organizer and Pocatello’s environmental coordinator.

There were nearly 100 booths featuring local businesses, city agencies and organizations. Instead of just pamphlets and brochures, many of the booths had hands-on activities, models and games to inform the community of different environmental facts. Several booths also sold environmentally friendly products.

Sanger said the fair helps people see how to make the area a better place to live.

“It celebrates where we live, it celebrates the Portneuf Vallery and it gives us all ideas of the little things we can do at home to make this valley a better place to live, to improve our quality of life,” she said.

The Pocatello Fire Department and Pocatello Regional Transit had fire trucks and city buses on display for attendees to explore.
