Panel recommends building new ISU presidential home

A fact-finding committee has recommended building the Idaho State University president a new home.

The 35-page report recommends building the home near the Stephens Performing Arts Center on university-owned property. Construction costs are estimated to be between $1.2 million and $1.5 million.

The Servel House has been the presidential residence for more than 60 years. The university president is required to host functions at the Servel House, all to promote ISU.

The group considered safety concerns, space and parking limitations, accessibility concerns, the cost of needed renovations, and the historic value of the Servel House.

“The committee unanimously agreed that while the Servel House has been well cared for by the university, in its current condition it does not meet business, living and image standards of a presidential residence facility,” ISU said in a news release Tuesday.

The 17-member panel included representatives from the University’s alumni, faculty, staff, students and community leaders.
