Searchers spend another day looking for missing Ogden man

The Bureau of Reclamation has begun to lower water released from Palisades Dam to help in the search for an Ogden man in the Snake River.

Searchers were out on the water on jet skis and boats Tuesday, but the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said the search for Steve Ryan Woods, 38 of Ogden, Utah, is now a recovery operation.

Woods has been missing since Sunday night when his boat overturned in the Snake River. He was with three family members.

Sgt. Jeff Edwards said just after 8 p.m. Sunday, the boat overturned near Conant Valley Boat ramp when it hit a partially submerged cottonwood tree.

The other three people on the boat were able to make it back to shore safely.

“We … want to put out the word that this river is running high,” said family member Blake Plamer on Monday. “And any mistake — it’s a simple mistake. We’ve both been rowing boats for a long time — we’ve never had an issue. We had one last night, and it could happen to anybody. You’ve got to respect this river, or it will kill you.”

Woods’ family has expressed gratitude for all involved in the search.

If anyone around the river sees what looks like a person in the water, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 529-1299.
