Man shot by law enforcement in Bonneville County

Law enforcement officers shot a man in a traffic stop early Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office said just after 1 a.m., it got a 911 call to a home in the northern part of the county after a neighbor found a pregnant woman crying.

A man had hit the woman in the head and face multiple times, hit her in the stomach, and drove away from the area, the sheriff’s office said.

On Monday afternoon, they identified the man as Ricky L. Mosley, 31, of Idaho Falls.

At 1:20 a.m, a deputy found the vehicle and pulled the man over in the parking lot of the Exxon Gas Station on Yellowstone and North Woodruff.

At the stop were Bonneville County deputies and Idaho Falls police.

Mosley was uncooperative with law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said. Officers “used a less-than-lethal device and firearms in the confrontation.”

Mosley transported to Eastern Idaho Medical Center. His condition was downgraded to critical Monday evening.

The Southeast Idaho Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting. The team is composed of various local law enforcement agencies from the surrounding area that were not involved in the incident.

The officers involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said will take some time to complete.

The sheriff’s office also said Mosley will be arrested on a charge of domestic battery with children present when he is released from the hospital.

Police said they would release more information Tuesday afternoon.
