Idaho Falls man accused of starting fires

Idaho Falls police say a man intentionally started two fires overnight Thursday.

According to reports, Douglas R. Wootton, 49, was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County jail for third-degree arson.

Police were called to an area along the Snake River near Sunnyside Road at around 12:30 a.m. Friday after someone reported a man dressed in dark clothing was lighting fires. Police found two separate fires. An officer used a fire extinguisher to douse one fire. The Idaho Falls Fire Department extinguished a larger fire.

Police searched the area and located Wootten, who matched the description of witnesses. He initially ran from police but was found hiding under some sage brush.
