Red Flag Warning ups fire staff

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning in Pocatello until 8 p.m.

It said the low humidity, winds and warm temperatures make conditions ideal for fires.

The Pocatello Fire Department is patrolling in high risk areas such as Johnny Creek.

Additional fire personnel are being brought in at the request of Fire Chief David Gates.

Homes that were built in the wildland-urban interface are the big concern.

“The first one is what’s your relative humidity is, so when your relative humidity gets below 15 percent, that’s very dry that allows for very fast fire propagation,” said Gates.

Chief Gates said to use more caution when working outside during the Red Flag Warning it only takes a spark to ignite a wildfire.
