Ammon city council approves bid for light intersection near Target

Shoppers in Ammon will be pleased to hear that the city council is taking step to build a new intersection near Target on Hitt road.

The Ammon city council held a bid opening Thursday night to determine the cost to construct a new traffic light behind Target to allow easier access to Hitt road. At the meeting the council approved using an additional $12,000 in funding to make the project happen. Although the extra cost isn’t what the council originally planned on, they determined the extra $12,000 cost would be worth it to fix a glaring traffic problem.

“When I knocked doors and talked to constituents they said ‘Please fix that, if you fix nothing else, fix that!'”, said Brad Christensen, Ammon city council member.

City council isn’t anticipating any major problems with the finances and the plan for construction should go through.

The construction would begin October 1st and include a road running behind Target to allow drivers to directly access Hitt Road.

The proposed construction project would be completed around October 25th, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

“Here we are at the tail end of the construction season. We’re going to push, push, push to get this done, we are anxious to get this taken care of, ” said Christensen.

The final announcement of the council’s decision will be made at the Ammon city council meeting next Thursday, September 10th.
