Opening Day of the EISF
The 2015 Eastern Idaho State Fair is in full swing. The festivities kicked offSaturday morning with the annual parade through town. This year’s theme is Find your Happy.
People lined each side of Shilling Avenuefor the annual kickoff parade for the fair. After children were filled up with candy from the floats they took to the fairgrounds.
Joe Abercrombie, of Base Camp Trailers, said, “My family probably spends more time at the fair than we should eating fair food.”
Alexis Acavedo described why she comes to the fair: “The food. Definitely the food. Only reason I come.”
Kanesha Jensen said, “Also, tiger ears.”
The food isn’t the only reason people come back year after year.
“To see all the people and all the things. Years ago they used to have a lot of farm equipment but just to see the different booths,” a fairgoer said.
For some the fair is a first-time experience.
“Ah it’s a lot better than our State Fair, and bigger,” said first-time fair attendee.
A new attraction at the fair this year is a tank where children can learn the ins and outs of fishing.
Heidi Velasquez, of H2O Attractions, said, “Because I think there is more out there today than just video games and TVs. If we can get mom and dad on board and the kid loves to be in the great outdoors, what better way to spend the day than on a creek or river fishing?”
Base Camp survival trailers for any emergency needs.
“Up in front we have a firewood box, which basically is for throwing really dirty stuff chainsaws, oil, firewood or children who got really muddy or won’t stop talking back. It locks,” Abercrombie said.
Along with new attractions, children are preparing their animals for the show.
Local News 8 reporter Hannah Miller said, “The animals aren’t the only thing you can enjoy at the fair. Here we are on the Ferris wheel. There’s lots of rides for everyone to enjoy and don’t miss out on wristband day.”
Sky Mitchell said, “The frog one. It goes like up and stops in the middle and then it will just drop. It’s scary.”
Once again we begin another year of the biggest attraction in Southeastern Idaho.
“You need to come to the fair,” said Mitchell.
