Semi accident releases bees on I-15 near the I-86 interchange
A semi accident on I-15 near the I-86 interchange released a large number of bees Thursday afternoon.
According to Idaho State Police, Robert M. Langford, of Ogden, Utah, was driving a Semi pulling a trailer loaded with bees. Langford was reaching for an item inside the truck, drove off the roadway, hitting a concrete barrier under the overpass. The vehicle continued off the roadway and overturned.
Langford was transported by ground ambulance to the Portneuf Medical Center, in Pocatello.
The crash caused the load of beehives Langford was carrying to break open, releasing millions of bees into the air. In order to clear the bees out of the area the Pocatello Fire Department had to spray the bees with foam killing them.
The clean up efforts left the right lane of travel blocked for approximately three and a half hours.
Idaho State Police is also investigating a two-vehicle crash at northbound I-15 near milepost 73, near Chubbuck. According to the Pocatello Police Department the crash is related to the bee incident.
Justin D. Corbridge, of Island Park, was driving a 1997 Kenworth Semi, pulling two trailers when Branden P. Palmer, of Pocatello, rear ended him while driving his 2002 Toyota Solara. Both vehicles came to rest on the right side of the roadway. The semi’s rear trailer ended up tipping over on its side, and the Toyota rolled off the right shoulder coming to rest on its top. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Palmer was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center, in Pocatello.
