Spruce fire allowed to play a natural role
The Spruce Fire, burning in the back country of Yellowstone National Park since early September, is now estimated at 2,119 acres. The lightning caused fire is burning in a lodgepole pine forest about 10 miles west of Fishing Bridge and 2 miles south of Hayden Valley.
No facilities, trails or roads are threatened and there are no closures in place.
The fire is being allowed to play its natural role in the ecosystem and crews are managing it for its resource benefits.
Hazy smoke from wildland fires burning in California and parts of Idaho likely played a role in suppressing the fire’s activity and spread over the weekend.
