Elevenmile fire activity slows

The Elevenmile forest fire has seen very little significant activity or changes in recent days. The 10,451 acre, lightning caused fire is 55 percent contained.

According to the Salmon-Challis National Forest, the fire showed minimal growth Sunday due to warmer, dryer weather conditions and gusty winds. Containment lines held, although light smoke settled in the Pahsimeroi Valley. Heavier smoke to the northwest of Challis was attributed to fires burning on neighboring forests.

Firefighters will continue to work to alleviate immediate hazards caused by the fire until it is fully contained or a significant storm reduces fire risk.

Weather forecasters were predicting an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday with cooling temperatures and rain or possible snow showers likely.

An area closure is still in effect, but all designated state, county, and forest roads and trails defining the perimeter of the closure area are open.
