Semi truck fire brings traffic to a halt

A hay fire along Interstate 15 north of Blackfoot brought traffic to a crawl Saturday afternoon.

A semi truck’s trailers carrying hay, caught on fire at milepost 99 north of Blackfoot around 2:45 p.m.

Ernest Griggs, 39, of Filer, was driving southbound on I-15 in a 2005 Peterbuilt. He was pulling three trailers loaded with hay when the hay and trailers caught fire. Griggs was able to pull onto the shoulder, disconnect the power unit from the trailers, and was not injured.

The lanes were at least partially blocked for over seven hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
