Lawmakers review $1.5 billion in state contracts

On Day Four of the Southeast Idaho Legislative Tour, lawmakers on the Purchasing Laws Interim Committee began reviewing the state’s roughly 41,000 contracts — worth a purported $1.5 billion dollars.

Lawmakers will invite members of the public to weigh in on the state’s contract system in a public hearing scheduled Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. in the ISU Student Union Building.

“If we can save even a little bit of money on $1.5 billion in expense each year — even a few percent savings — that amounts to a lot of money,” said State Rep. Neil Anderson, R-Blackfoot, who co-chairs the committee.
