Prescribed burns in Teton County, Idaho

TheCaribou-Targhee National Forest says they will have prescribed burns this week in and around the Teton Valley.

The fires will be in Red Creek, near Pine Creek Pass on the western side of the county. The other fire will be in Hill Creek east of Driggs.

“Improved aspen stands are one of the goals of the Red Creek project.Aspen standsregenerate via rootssuckers andthrive on disturbanceto spurnew growth. They also require plenty of sunlight, whichis often inhibited byovergrowth in absence of fire. The CTNF is using prescribed fire to mimic the natural process of a fire-adapted ecosystem” said the Forest Service.

Smoke from the fires will be seen in the area throughout the next few days.
