Pocatello City Council candidates discuss issues at forum

The League of Women Voters of Pocatello sponsored a Pocatello City Council Candidate Forum Tuesday to let candidates voice their positions on issues and to help educate voters.

Saralee Anderson, LWVP board member in charge of the forums, said this will help see where the candidates stand.

“The candidates are being asked questions that oftentimes are the keys to people’s decision-making,” Anderson said.

The LWVP hosts these candidate forums during every election. The 10 candidates running for the three open council seats were in attendance. Questions asked at the forum were either submitted by attendees or called in by those watching it from home.

The candidates focused a lot on how they would improve the city’s economy. Several mentioned the need to strengthen small businesses, as well as the need to collaborate with entities like the Bannock County Development Corporation or Bannock County.

There was also discussion about the city’s taxes, with some candidates saying they need to be lowered.

The forum will be able to be viewed here after a few days.

The LWVP will be hosting another forum for Chubbuck City Council candidates Wednesday at Chubbuck City Hall at 7 p.m.
