Water advisory for Rexburg food handlers lifted

Update: Eastern Idaho Public Health and Department of Environmental Quality have now lifted the water advisory for food handlers in Rexburg.

Original story: The Eastern Idaho Public Health has issued a precautionary water advisory to food handlers in the city of Rexburg.

The advisory requires that a food establishment provide safe, potable water for drinking, food preparation, warehousing and hand washing uses at all times.

City Attorney Stephen Zollinger said, the action came after high counts of coliform bacteria were discovered slightly above food-code levels during routine tests.

Zollinger said there was no threat to the general public, but that food handlers are held to a higher standard of safety.

The advisory will remain in effect until the system is determined to be safe. Rexburg officials said that the water system has already been re-tested and could be cleared as early as Saturday morning.
