Original Story: Early Wednesday morning Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Idaho Falls Police were able to locate and arrest a wanted felon who federal officers had been searching for for several weeks.

32-year-old Nicholas L. Olsen was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a federal probation violation warrant and a misdemeanor warrant from Bonneville County. Olsen was on probation for multiple drug related charges.

At around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday a male suspect knocked on the door of a home in the area of 113th North and 65th East asking for help because his vehicle had broken down. The home owner contacted the sheriff’s office and advised the man that law enforcement was on their way to assist him. Upon hearing this the man fled on foot. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers set a perimeter in the area to look for the man. At about 8:20 a.m. an officer located the man running down a canal. The officer stopped and arrested the man.

Local officers along with the US Marshalls Service had been on the lookout for Olsen for several days as he was wanted on federal and local warrants. Olsen was believed to be armed and dangerous. In the evening hours of November 17th, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and an officer with Ucon Police Department found a vehicle believed to be used recently by Olsen. While attempting to stop the vehicle it fled east bound on 105th North in Ucon to the area of 55th East where it crashed through a fence into a field and eventually into a canal. The occupants fled on foot and officers searched the area throughout the night but were unable to locate the occupants at that time.
