Teton County, Wyoming school district plans new elementary building
The Teton County, Wyoming School District has completed negotiations to purchase a 20 acre parcel of land immediately south of the Wyoming Department of Transportation building south of Jackson. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The land will be the site of anew elementary school. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017 with the new school opening in the fall of 2018.
Board Chairman Patricia Russell said a majority of K-5 students that live in the southern portion of the county live south of Rafter J and are much close to the new parcel than they are to Jackson Elementary. “In fact,” said Russell, “transportation to a school in the Hog Island area will reduce bus route times, carbon emissions, and school generated traffic in the Town of Jackson and on the very busy High School Road.”
The school district said the new building plans will be coordinated with WYDOT’s effort to widen the highway in that area.
