Number of women joining ROTC remain steady at ISU

Defense Secretary Ash Carter made the announcement this month that women are now approved to enter more combat roles in the military. Since then, the numbers of women joining the ROTC program at ISU have remained pretty steady says Officer In Charge, Capt. Geoffrey Klein.

He says he’s curious as to how popular these combat roles will become with women now that it’s available to them.

“I think one of the most important steps through this process is, what the secretary stressed during his press conference is, as long as females can meet the same physical standards – because a lot of the positions are very physical, front-line positions.”

Roles now being offered to women are certain roles in infantry, Delta Force, and tanker positions.

Only time will tell for these combat roles to become more popular with women, now that they’re approved to join them.
