Rexburg woman shares why she created Walmart petition

The woman who started an online petition to have the Walmart Supercenter in Rexburg close on Sundays, is getting some backlash on the issue.

People have taken to the Change.org website, expressing their views on Lemon’s request. She’s requesting the corporation to consider closing its doors on Sundays.

Lemon who is a full-time mom raising 8 children explains why she decided to petition in the first place.

After visiting the Walmart Supercenter she said, “I kind of got a sickening feeling is the only way I can describe it. I love this store but I’m really sad that they’re open on Sundays.”

Lemon said this community was founded on religion and it’s traditions.

“…and that’s not exclusive to the LDS church, they’re people of other denominations that have that same faith and same hope. We recognize Sunday as a day to worship,” Lemon said.

Lemon said her petition has had some negative backlash, generating comments from people who are against her petition.

“I didn’t actually think that there would be such harsh comment. My reaction to them is that is I’m saddened that people feel so angry and hateful towards something so incredible as the chance to worship god on his day,” Lemon said.

When asked if she would do the petition again Lemon said, “Yes, I would do it again, it’s not about me it’s about the people and our community.”
