Pocatello City Council to consider changing zoo name

At Thursday’s Pocatello City Council Study Session, the Council will be asked to consider a name change for the Pocatello Zoo.

Parks and Recreation Department staff are requesting the name be changed to Zoo Idaho. In an executive summary provided to the Council by staff and available here, staff say the change in moniker better reflects the animals and experience at the Zoo. Currently, the zoo displays animals that are native to Idaho and the Intermountain West.

For the name change to be finalized, it would require a vote by the City Council. The vote would happen at a future Council meeting.

Officials are asking for the public to comment on the proposal and residents can share their opinion via email and mail on the proposal. Comments can be sent to yourzoo@pocatello.us or mailed to City of Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department, P.O. Box 4169, Pocatello, ID 83205.
