Drivers are enjoying some the lowest gas prices at the pump in years

Drivers are enjoying some the lowest gas prices at the pump in years, and gas prices are continuing to drop.

According to GasBuddy.com the average price in Idaho is $1.93.

“Everybody feels that extra jingle in the pocket, don’t they,” Tony Watkins, owner of Watkins Distributing said.

Take his trucking company for example.

“We’ve saved over $120,000 in fuel costs,” he said.

This is impressive because fuel is one of the company’s biggest expenses. Saving there means money can go elsewhere like raising wages and pay for health and liability insurances. And it’s not just his company.

“If they’ve got another $20 in their pocket they didn’t spend gas, they can buy another case of beer,” he said.

While it’s great for drivers and the transportation industry, there are some negative impacts elsewhere.

“The oil industry. There’s a lot of money being lost and jobs being lost,” said Gas Buddy analyst Will Speer.

Scott Larson who was buying gas in Idaho Falls Tuesday said its hard to seeing people in the oil industry struggling, but he still likes the low gas prices.

“It may be a little selfish, but here at home it feels good to be able [to] have a full tank of gas for 22 bucks.”
