Simplot Games projected to bring in $6 Million for Pocatello

The 38th annual Simplot Games began Thursday at Holt Arena. The annual sporting event has brought in over 2,000 athletes from 20 different states and well known olympians. Executive Director of the games Lisa Woodland says it’s all expected to bring in $6 million dollars for Pocatello.

“Pocatello hotels are sold out! Athletes had to book rooms in Idaho Falls,” said Woodland.

With that kind of answer, it’s no surprise how much business and revenue Pocatello restaurants and hotels will be collecting over the weekend.

A leap pole vaulter for one of the scheduled events, Mike Arnold says he’s currently a student at Idaho State University and can only imagine the sold out rooms from hotels. In fact, he’s experienced it himself some years ago.

Arnold will be competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio this Summer and hopes for a great outcome with the Simplot Games this weekend, as he loves to compete.

The games are free to the public and will end Sunday, with awards and a special event happening Saturday.
