Two men arrested for burglarizing storage units

Madison County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 27-year-old Jacob C. Hartill and 36-year-old Scott M. Thomas for burglary and theft.

On March 25th 2016, Madison County Sheriff’s Office started receiving called from owners of storage units north of Rexburg about locks to their storage units being cut off and items missing.

Over the next week, several more reports were made by victims about more cut locks and items missing. Later in the week while on patrol, a Madison County Deputy found other storage units burglarized, as well a vehicle in the area of the storage units. The male driver was identified as Jacob C. Hartill. Hartill was arrested for having a suspended license, meth and drug paraphernalia and possession of Burglary tools.

More information was gathered by Madison County Detectives and a second suspect was placed under surveillance and a subsequent arrest warrant was issued for Scott Thomas.

On April 6th, a search warrant was executed on a storage unit in Idaho Falls and items from the storage units in Madison County were found along with items from other burglaries in Idaho Falls and Jefferson County. Reports of over 20 storage units have been filed, with cases still under investigation. A large amount of property was found and was taken into evidence.

Jacob C. Hartill from Idaho Falls was booked in on Drug Charges as well as burglary charges and has a current bond of $35,000 and is being held in the Madison County jail.

Scott M. Thomas from Idaho Falls was booked in on Burglary and theft charges with a current bond of $ $40,000 and is being held in the Madison County jail.
