One northbound US 20 lane to close on Friday

The City of Idaho Falls announced today that one northbound lane of US 20 just west of Snake River Bridge will be closed on Friday for construction work in the area.

DePatco Inc. is scheduled to close the right lane of northbound US 20, just west of Snake River Bridge, on Friday, April 8 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Motorists traveling from Grandview on US 20 toward Rigby will be affected by the lane closure. The sidewalk path in that area will also be closed, and pedestrians are encouraged to access the Greenbelt from Lindsay Boulevard and Landbank Street.

The scheduled work is to improve the sidewalk transition of the West Snake River Greenbelt Path project with the sidewalk along US 20.

Motorists are instructed to avoid the construction area, when possible, watch for equipment and workers, follow all traffic signs and flaggers and reduce speeds to posted limits.

The West Snake River Greenbelt Path project began in August of 2015 and is a joint effort pathway development project made possible through coordination of the Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency, Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and the City of Idaho Falls Parks & Recreation Department.

The project will result in a continuous 12-16ft wide path from Broadway to US 20 to better accommodate existing high volume users and different user types such as bicyclists, children, walkers and business and hotel patrons. Landscaping, ADA access and pedestrian crossings to the hotels and services along River Parkway are also part of the plan.

The total project cost is $865,000 with $350,000 funded by a grant reimbursement from ITD, $400,000 allocated from the Redevelopment Agency and a 7 percent grant match from the City of Idaho Falls.
