US Attorney to meet with international students at ISU
UPDATE: The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into an incident on the ISU Campus earlier this week, where anti-Muslim DVD’s were placed on car windshields.
While that FBI inquiry proceeds, a spokesperson for U.S. Attorney for Idaho Wendy Olsen said she and others from her office will be on campus next Thursday.
Spokesperson Becky Early said officers will meet with all international students and discuss the federal civil rights statutes that protect them.
ORIGINAL STORY:
An anti-Muslim CD was left on students’ cars Monday in a parking lot at Idaho State University. CDs were slipped under windshield wipersand left in a square envelope to protect from the rain.
A student at ISUsaid that he took the CD and played it, thinking it was a mixtape. But as it played, it wasn’t a mixtape at all, instead, it showed anti-Muslim propaganda. The CD is titled “Idaho Muslims and Tommy Robinson.” It’s unknown whether if Tommy Robinson is an ISU student or not, or perhaps just someone who lives off campus in the community somewhere. Tommy Robinson may be referring to the founder and ex-leader of the English Defence League based in the United Kingdom. Robinson is known as an activist against the Islam community.
“It included a slideshow of terrible pictures and sacrilegious images. One even says ‘terrorist manuals’ on it. By doing this and spreading these CDs over several different students’ cars, this individual committed a hate crime,” said the student.
The student has posted images on his Facebook and is asking people to spread awareness of the crime. He says he hopes it will make people spread the word of tolerance, peace, and love, rather than hatred, ignorance, and intolerance.
Idaho State University is investigating the incident along with the FBI. The school posted a request for information on their Facebook page and are asking student’s to cooperate with the investigation.
